About Designer.
The designer of Etnias Chile studied Fashion Design in Santiago and based her graduation thesis on the culture and clothing of the Mapuche. She took the characteristic of the Mapuche textiles and the geometric figures used in their designs and incorporated them in her avant-garde creations. Her passion for the culture of the native people of Araucania is unlimited; she loves the ancestral influences.
All clothing of Etnias Chile is hand made by local artisans, among them the wool spinners who have perfected their craft. The dyeing of wool is done by using organic, natural products and, interestingly enough, the color selection is based on the seasons. The weaving is artisanal, made in hand-made looms, the “Witrals.”
